Hong Kong – From 25 April to 2 May, Christie’s will host ‘An Eye for the Magnificent’, a special exhibition in collaboration with the eminent Paris-based Galerie Steinitz, featuring more than 20 pieces of French decorative art. The first Classic Art exhibition at Christie's new home at The Henderson, the show offers a unique experience for collectors and aims to inspire a new generation to explore the epitome of French craftsmanship. The exhibition will be presented alongside Christie’s Asian Art Week, placing exceptional European artistry in dialogue with the finest Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, and Chinese Paintings.

About Galerie Steinitz

Continuing his family's long tradition as connoisseurs and 'antiquaires', Benjamin Steinitz' passion and deep knowledge of furniture and works of art is unparalleled, establishing him as one of the world's leading authorities. Discovering masterpieces and studying their historical context by revealing their provenances is one of the main priorities of Galerie Steinitz, as well as celebrating the skills and designs of the greatest 18th century French masters, who pushed the boundaries of technical expertise. Among the masterpieces which passed through the hands of Steinitz - by Jean-Henri Riesener, Pierre Gouthière, Pierre-Philippe Thomire and Georges Jacob, to name a few - are numerous items which belonged to King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, members of the Rothschild family, and fashion designers such as Jacques Doucet, Karl Lagerfeld and Hubert de Givenchy.

Classic Art at Christie’s in Asia

The market for Classic Art in Asia has grown significantly over the past decade, with masterpieces being collected for private and public art collections in Greater China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. Christie’s has recognised that collectors from the region have a taste for exemplary pieces, in immaculate condition, and with particularly notable provenance. As the only international auction house with a dedicated Classic Art team in Asia, Christie’s is committed to harnessing this interest. Through special exhibitions, tours of masterpieces, museum tours and unique events, Christie’s provides quality education and advice to collectors and enthusiasts across the region.
