Hong Kong – Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Sabado por la Noche (Saturday Night) sold for HK$112,625,000 / US$14,544,212 at Christie’s 20th/21st Century Evening Sale at The Henderson on 28 March during Hong Kong Art Week. The most valuable work presented at auction in Asia this Spring, the result underscores the sustained demand from the Asian market for blue-chip Western masterpieces.

Ada Tsui, Head of Evening Sale, 20th/21st Century Art, Christie’s Asia Pacific commented: "It was an honour to present this extraordinary masterpiece. When works of this quality come to the market, Asian collectors continue to respond. Sabado por la Noche (Saturday Night) joins Christie’s unparalleled track record of Basquiat sales in Hong Kong and we are now proudly behind 7 of top 10 Basquiat works auctioned in Asia."

In addition to its sales, Christie’s has been cultivating the market for Basquiat works in Asia through acclaimed, museum-quality exhibitions. ‘Radiance: The Basquiat Show’, was presented in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2021, and ‘Heads On: Basquiat and Warhol’, was showcased during Seoul Art Week in 2023, which included Sabado por la Noche (Saturday Night).
