NEW YORK – Christie’s is proud to present John Chamberlain: Foil & Form in partnership with the John Chamberlain Estate. This curated selling exhibition showcases a selection of 11 intimately scaled pieces by the celebrated American sculptor John Chamberlain, whose work transcends categorization with elements of Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Dada, and Pop Art. The works span several eras of Chamberlain’s practice, with examples ranging from the 80s to the 2000s. The exhibition will take place at Christie’s New York, open April 15-27, and will be free and open to the public. The works will be available for sale through Christie's Private Sales department.

Highlights include domestic scaled aluminum foil sculptures upon which the monumental foils are modeled, exemplary tabletop sculptures in Chamberlain’s signature medium—assemblages of vibrantly colored scrap-metal automobile parts with playful titles. Further highlighted are the Tonks, constructed from disassembled toy trucks and cars which the artist bought en masse from an abandoned Tonka Toy factory. Together, these works form a survey exploring themes and ideas that preoccupied the artist throughout his illustrious six-decade career, displaying his signature combination of technical mastery and dynamic expression, all with a touch of playful whimsy.

Additionally, the public art exhibition Chamberlain Goes Outdoors at Rockefeller Center will be on view on Rockefeller Center’s Center Plaza from April 16 to May 29, 2025. Three large-scale sculptures, FIDDLERSFORTUNE (Pink) (2010), BALMYWISECRACK (Copper) (2010), and RITZFROLIC (Green) (2008) will be presented in the United States for the first time following presentations in Amsterdam, Scotland, and London, and BALMYWISECRACK (Copper) will be exhibited to the public for the first time. Presented by Mnuchin Gallery, this installation offers a rare opportunity to encounter one of Chamberlain’s final bodies of work in one of New York’s most iconic public spaces.
