Lihua Tung, Head of Department, Hong Kong, Modern & Contemporary Art, said: "Building on the success of Yoshitomo Nara’s works in yesterday’s Evening Sale, today’s Day Sale was led by the artist’s Untitled, which fetched over HK$4.3 million/ US$554,863. The sale results also showcased the strength of Modern art collections with important provenance. Several pieces achieved remarkable prices, notably a selection of ink on paper works by Sanyu from the Collection of Doris & Gilles Habart, inherited from Michel Habart in France, which realised over HK$1.76 million/US$226,841, with all works selling above their high estimates. Works from the collection of Zao Wou-Ki’s daughter, Sin-May Roy Zao, also saw spirited bidding. 27.6.70 sold for over HK$4 million/US$522,224, making it the second top lot of the sale, and Untitled sold for over HK$1.14 million/US$146,876, more than double its pre-sale high estimate. This auction offered a variety of Chinese Modern & Contemporary artworks from different periods, and we were thrilled to see pieces by artists such as Chen Yifei, Wang Guangle, Li Jin, and Xue Song achieving solid prices. Following a new auction record set for rising Chinese artist Li Hei Di in the Evening Sale, today’s Day Sale saw another record set for up-and-coming Chinese artist Xiyao Wang.”
