NEW YORK – Christie’s is pleased to announce the outstanding results achieved for Unapologetically Iris: The Collection of Iris Apfel. The online sale far exceeded its low estimate of $150,000, achieving an impressive $929,880 . The auction was 100% sold by lot and 100% by value, realizing 484% of the low estimate, with nearly all lots surpassing their high estimates.

In the months leading up to the sale, the collection traveled to Miami and Palm Beach, where fans and admirers of Iris paid tribute to the beloved icon, culminating in an exhibition in New York City. The auction generated remarkable excitement, reflected in the number of new clients registered for the sale, totaling almost 1,000. Notably, Millennials accounted for 43% of bidders and buyers.

Tash Perrin, Deputy Chairman, Christie’s Americas, comments: "It was a privilege to bring Unapologetically Iris: The Iris Apfel Collection to auction. Celebrating this self-proclaimed ‘geriatric starlet’ was a true joy, and we were thrilled to work with the collection, witnessing the excitement it sparked in our galleries. Fans and admirers of Iris eagerly immersed themselves in her vibrant, feel-good world."

Leading the sale was a Pair of Circular Brass Hall Lights Each Mounted with a Continental Ceramic Parrot, which realized $40,320, more than twenty times its low estimate. Additional top lots from the sale include a Large Japanese Ceramic Vase, which made $25,200, a Painted Leather Six-Panel Floor Screen, which sold for $18,900, and a Portrait of Margarita Teresa, which realized $17,640.

Outstanding results were achieved across categories such as fashion, bangles, and eyewear. Highlights include a Multicolor Feather Coat, which made nearly fifteen times its low estimate, totaling $11,970, a Mixed Group of Turquoise Colored Jewelry in Lucite, Resin and Silvered Metal, which achieved $9,450, over thirty times its low estimate, and Ten Pairs of Eyewear from various designers, which realized $16,380, more than eighty times its low estimate.

We are pleased to confirm that Doyle Auctioneers and Appraisers are presenting Part 2 of the Collection of Iris Apfel with sales continuing on March 4th and 5th.
