Bonhams London Fine Watches Celebrates the Mastery in Watchmaking With Best-In-Class Designs

London – Bonhams will present the anticipated London Fine Watches sale on 19 June 2025 , the curated live sale will feature a plethora of timepieces showcasing best-in-class designs across the decades from vintage to modern designs from coveted names such as Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Vacheron Constantin. The sale coincides with the inaugural launch of London Watch Week, where a series of events to celebrate the world of horological excellence will take place. Bonhams will host a series of talks on 17 June ahead of the Fine Watches sale.

The curated 75-lot live sale is led by a rare Rolex military submariner, reference 5513, circa 1975 . The stainless-steel automatic wristwatch was issued to the Royal Navy and is offered on behalf of the original owner a former Royal Navy Clearance Diver who was responsible for disposing of all explosive devices found beyond the water line, they covered dive operations across UK, Italy, Norway, Denmark and Gibraltar.

The watch that is fresh to market, features the thicker, sword-shaped hands for enhanced legibility, the rotating bezel calibrated to 60 minutes to the encircled "T" on the dial indicating the use of luminescent Tritium. The originality of this watch is excellent, and it is a unique opportunity to acquire apiece of diving history. The timepiece is offered with an estimate of £80,000-120,000.

Jonathan Darracott, Bonhams Global Head of Watches, commented: "It's that time of year we present a curated collection of special and collectable watches spanning all interests from a musical alarm watch from Breguet, to diamond set Rolex's showcased alongside rare collector's pieces from Cartier and a notable Rolex military submariner from 1975. The submariner was a "tool watch" in the truest sense of the word and often were repaired with service parts and in many cases heavily damaged during their years of military use.

As such it is exceedingly rare to find a military issue submariner in as well preserved and original condition as the present lot making it a grail level timepiece for collectors. To coincide with the London Fine Watches sale, we are delighted to partner with London Watch Week, the new watch event that is set to mark London as a key player in the global watch arena and look forward to sharing our experiences and knowledge of the horology world with the wider watch community." Another notable lot is a Patek Philippe 18K white gold manual wind perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with moon phase, reference 5970G, circa 2007.

The 5970 is considered one of the most successful models in Patek's perpetual calendar chronograph journey. Fitted with the last Lemania based movement before switching to inhouse, the timepiece represents a balance between heritage and modernity. Offered with an estimate of £70,000-90,000.

Another important lot is aRolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 116599TBR, circa 2010 . The impressive 18K white gold and pavé diamond set automatic chronograph wristwatch, exemplifies the fusion of technical performance and high jewellery, featuring rare diamond-set hooded lugs, a distinctive variation on the classic Daytona design. The watch is offered with an estimate of £50,000-70,000.

Other sale highlights include:

• A Rolex COMEX Submariner, reference 5514 between the lugs and 5513 inside case back, circa 1976. The stainless-steel automatic bracelet watch made for COMEX and the 5514 model is one of the rarest of all submariner models, sold exclusively to COMEX. The gas escape valve was designed to release pressure from the case during the diver's decompression periods. Each watch was issued to their specialist divers marked COMEX on the dial and numbered on the case back. Offered with an estimate of £50,000-70,000.

• A Rolex Day Date, reference 18039, circa 1983. The 18K white gold automatic calendar bracelet watch with Khanjar dial, features the national emblem of Oman, the Khanjar dagger in a sheath superimposed upon two crossed swords. Representing an exceptional piece of family, military and watchmaking history, it was given to the original owner Lieutenant General Sir Michael Stuart Gray KCB, OBE, DL (1932-2011) who had a highly distinguished military career, by the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said Al Said (1940-2020) in 1986. The watch is fresh to market and offered with an estimate of £20,000-30,000.

• A Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 'Leopard', reference 116598 SACO, circa 2006. A fine and rare 18K gold diamond and yellow sapphire set automatic chronograph wristwatch. The watch features a striking leopard print lacquered dial with diamond hour markers and is offered with an estimate of £35,000-55,000.

• A Cartier Tank Louis Cartier Skeleton, reference: 2671, limited-edition No.50/50, circa 2004. The limited-edition platinum skeletonised manual wind rectangular wristwatch expertly demonstrates Cartier's mastery at skeletonising movements while adding the contemporary twist that the Collection Privée limited series is known for. Offered with an estimate of £25,000-35,000.

• A Breguet La Musicale - La Gazza Ladra, reference 7800BB , circa 2012. The 18K white gold automatic wristwatch with music alarm and rotating dial features a patented mechanism which plays a magical melody. Comparative to a music box the sound comes from a pinned disc playing on a musical comb. The sound is amplified by an innovation made of a hand-engraved metallic glass membrane placed under the movement. The watch plays a melody composed by Giochino Rossini in 1817 'La Gazza Ladra' (The Thieving Magpie). Offered with an estimate of £20,000-30,000.
