Christie’s Paris will pay tribute to Félix Vallotton (1865 to 1925) from April 2 to 10, 2025, during the week dedicated to 20th and 21st-century art sales. Previously unseen works with notable provenance will come to market in the April 10 sale, part of the “ Vallotton Year” marking the centenary of the artist’s death.

A painter, printmaker, illustrator, sculptor, art critic, and novelist, Vallotton was a central figure of the Nabi movement. His works are held in institutions including MoMA, the Musée d’ Orsay, and the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, his birthplace and home to the foundation that bears his name. In 2025 that foundation will lead “ Vallotton Year”, a cultural initiative commemorating the centenary.
Four previously unseen works, kept from public view since their creation, will be offered for the first time. All originate from the private collection of Pierre Chapuis, a physician and close friend of the Vallotton family. Among the highlights are La Maison rose, Varengeville (€70,000 to €100,000) and Paysage côtier (€30,000 to €50,000), which show Vallotton’s handling of light within landscapes.
Paysage (Guernesey) (€3,000 to €5,000), a work on paper, offers a glimpse into the artist’s more intimate creations. Mont-Blanc (€3,000 to €5,000) exemplifies his woodcut engraving, and a rare sculpture, Jeune mère (also known as Femme et enfant) (€20,000 to €30,000), completes the group.
The sale and its accompanying exhibition form part of a broader cultural programme led by the Félix Vallotton Foundation to honour the centenary. Its centrepiece will be a retrospective at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, presenting 200 works alongside the latest research.
