Bonhams Global Jewellery Sales See Diamonds and Signed Jewels Exceed Pre-Sale Estimates

Los Angeles | London – Bonhams presented the anticipated live May jewellery sales; California Jewels on May 20 and Knightsbridge Jewels on May 21. Both sales featured a selection of exceptional pieces spanning the centuries. Highlights included coloured gemstones, vibrant emeralds, rubies, and sapphires alongside antique and vintage jewels. The sales also showcased striking contemporary designs and signed creations from world-renowned houses.

California Jewels made atotal of US$2,111,616 and Knightsbridge Jewels made atotal of £1,196,992. California Jewels top lot was an 18K white gold and diamond ring , centering around diamond weighing 3.14 carats, set in asurround of tapered-baguette and round diamonds. The ring sold for double its pre-sale estimate to achieve US$51,200 (estimate US$20,000-30,000.) Other notable lots were:

• A Carlo Illario 18K gold and diamond serpent bracelet of a flexible, coiled design, completed by marquise-shaped diamond eyes. The bracelet sold for five times its pre-sale estimate to achieve US$40,960 (estimate US$7,000-9,000).

• A Buccellati 18K bi-colour gold and coral bracelet. The hinged cuff of an elaborate foliate motif, set with round cabochon coral sold for five times its pre-sale estimate to achieve US$35,840 (estimate US$7,000-9,000).

• An 18K white gold and diamond bracelet featuring emerald-cut diamonds in an east-west setting weighing 15.88 carats, achieved US$35,840 (estimate US$22,000-28,000).

• A platinum, sapphire and diamond ring, featuring an oval sapphire of Sri Lankan origin, weighing approximately 19.55 carats, accented by tapered-baguette diamonds.

The ring sold for four times its pre-sale estimate to achieve US$28,160 (estimate US$7,000-9,000). Knightsbridge Jewels top lot was anatural pearl and diamond necklace, and earring set, circa 19 century – early 20th century. Composed of graduating foliate drops, each collet-set with old cushion-shaped diamonds, suspending asimilarly-set foliate link, each terminating in anatural pearl via arose-cut diamond-set cap.

The set sold for over five times its pre-sale estimate to achieve £35,840 (estimate £6,000-8,000). Other notable lots were:

• A diamond cluster bombé heart locket, circa 1860. The front pavé set with rows of graduating old brilliant-cut diamonds surrounding a larger similarly-cut diamond to centre, hung from a diamond set surmount, mounted in silver and gold, to a hinged back of cabochon rock crystal. The locket sold for nine times its pre-sale estimate to achieve £28,160 (estimate £3,000-5,000).

• A19th century diamond rivière necklace. The necklace of a single row of 68 old cushion and circular-cut diamonds graduated towards the centre, sold for four times its pre-sale estimate to achieve £28,160 (estimate £7,000-10,000).

• An aquamarine rivière necklace, late 18th, early 19th century. The graduated row of oval-shaped aquamarines set within foiled closed back pinched collet settings, suspending an oval-shaped paste drop. The necklace sold for eight times its presale estimate to achieve £25,600 (estimate £3,000-5,000).

• A George Lenfant for Cartier zodiac pendant, circa 1960. The pendant depicting Neptune, attribute of Pisces, seated atop a chariot being drawn by aquadriga, suspended from a fancy-link chain by Marcel Francois Renard, pendant signed Cartier Paris, sold for double its pre-sale estimate to achieve £23,040 (estimate £8,000-12,000).
