Allison Immergut, Co-Head of the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, remarked, "We could not be prouder of the successful outcome of our sale today, ending an incredible series of live sales on a high note. From the first lot this morning to the final lot in the evening, nearly nine hours later, we saw enduring excitement for great art from start to finish. We were especially proud to set a world record for Josef Albers as well. Today was a testament to both the tireless spirit of our team at Christie's as well as the vibrancy of the contemporary art market."
The Anna Condo single-owner group
The afternoon session of the auction began with a dedicated single-owner grouping of works by George Condo from the collection of Anna Condo. The group was 100% sold and far surpassed expectations to achieve $8,187,690, more than doubling its low estimate. The top lot of the group was a monumental canvas that achieved $1,651,000, more than three times its low estimate.
Michael Baptist, Co-Head of the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, remarked, "We're delighted to have achieved such a remarkable benchmark with today's sale total surpassing the $100 million mark. We were privileged to have a sale filled with quality works of exceptional provenance, foregrounded by incredible collections, among them, the collection of Anna Condo. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Anna Condo in putting this selection of works together, offering a cohesive look at George Condo's artwork from the late 90s through the early 2010s. This was a strong grouping, emblematic of many important themes and motifs of Condo's practice, and we were thrilled to see the market's response."
Esteemed collections
The sale featured additional esteemed collections, two of which headlined Evening Sales the previous night: the private collections of Marian Goodman and Hank Mc Neil, both 100% sold. Combined with the property sold Tuesday and Wednesday, the Mc Neil collection achieved a final total of $29,810,390.
