NEW YORK – 19 NOVEMBER 2024 – Phillips has announced highlights from the forthcoming New York Jewels Auction, taking place on 13 December at its New York headquarters. Featuring an extraordinary selection of rare and exquisite pieces from renowned makers, fancy colored and colorless diamonds, vibrant colored gemstones, and iconic signed jewels, the sale promises to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Cristina Rodrigo, Specialist and Head of Sale, Jewels, New York, said, “We are thrilled to present highlights from the December New York Jewels Auction, featuring exceptional pieces from important makers, such as René Boivin, Suzanne Belperron, and Jean Schlumberger, alongside stunning offerings in the Colored Gemstones and Diamond categories. We’re particularly excited to present several examples of antique cut diamonds, which are enjoying a surge in popularity right now.

IMPORTANT MAKERS

Among the highlights are remarkable pieces by important makers. The transformable René Boivin Aquamarine Demi Parure, circa 1950, was designed by Juliette Moutard and features a necklace centering a large step-cut aquamarine further enhanced by baguette-cut aquamarines. The central pendant can be removed and worn as a brooch, the necklace shortened and worn as a bracelet; together with a pair of matching earrings. Other highlights include a pair of Suzanne Belperron Dress Clips of trefoil design set with pavé diamonds, circa 1945, and a stunning Jean Schlumberger Tortoiseshell, Coral, and Diamond Clip-Brooch, circa 1956, occurring in this same year when Schlumberger commenced his legendary partnership with Tiffany & Co.

COLORED GEMSTONES

The Colored Gemstones category boasts an impressive array of vibrant and rare stones. Highlights include an unmounted Kashmir Sapphire, weighing 3.43 carats respectively, certified by SSEF and AGL, both stating Kashmir origin and no evidence of heat treatment; the SSEF stating Royal Blue color.  Another standout is a Paraiba Tourmaline and Diamond Ring, featuring a 10.11 carat oval-shaped Paraiba tourmaline of Brazilian origin, with exceptional color. The stone is heat treated but with no further clarity enhancement. Additional highlights include an Important Emerald and Diamond Ring with a 3.79 carat step-cut emerald of Colombian origin with no clarity enhancement and a Sapphire and Diamond Ring. The beautiful, elongated cushion shaped sapphire is of Ceylon origin weighing 31.20 carats.

DIAMONDS

Among the highlights in the Diamonds category is an Impressive Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring, featuring an old European brilliant-cut diamond weighing 43.15 carats with VS2 clarity, crowned in a beautiful diamond mounting, as well as a Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond Toi et Moi Ring with one pear-shaped brilliant-cut Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond weighing 3.61 carats and a second with D color weighing 5.03 carats—both diamonds are Internally Flawless. Further exceptional examples of colored diamonds in the sale include a Fancy Intense Green Diamond Ring—oval-shaped, brilliant-cut, and weighing over 2 carats, and an Unmounted Fancy Purple-Pink Diamond weighing 1.63 carats.

SIGNED JEWELS

The signed jewels category features exquisite pieces from renowned houses. Highlights include a pair of Natural Pearl and Diamond Earclips by Van Cleef & Arpels, showcasing rare, natural saltwater pearls. An iconic Bulgari ‘Tubogas’ Bracelet, with its flexible design and vibrant enamel work, is another covetable piece, along with a specialorder Bulgari ‘Serpenti’ Pendant Necklace with scales of brilliant-cut diamonds and wood suspending a pear-shaped rose-cut diamond.

PERIOD JEWELS

The Period Jewels category offers a glimpse into the elegance of bygone eras with covetable, classic pieces. Among the most notable is a French-made Antique Diamond Rivière Necklace from the late 19th century set with 43 graduated old- and circular-cut diamonds weighing a total of nearly 50 carats and mounted in silver-topped gold. Another example – a Cartier Art Deco Onyx, Diamond, and Seed Pearl Brooch, ‘Etrier’, circa 1921, featuring an inverted stirrup-shaped onyx centerpiece suspending strands of seed pearls decorated with circular and rose-cut diamonds.

TRENDING VINTAGE JEWELS

Highlights from a selection of Vintage Jewels with contemporary market appeal include a Bulgari Diamond, Wood, and Bone Necklace, designed for both day and night wear, featuring rows of brilliant-cut diamonds with alternating inlaid wood and bone stripes. The Cartier Lapis Lazuli Pendant Necklace in 18K yellow gold is a stellar example of zodiac-inspired jewelry that is currently enjoying a resurgence, while another nostalgic piece—a Piaget ‘Polo’ wristwatch from the 1970s, known as the ‘Vampire,’ with its mechanical movement, white dial, dauphine hands, and integrated white gold bifurcated bracelet—is a prime example of the timeless appeal of innovative design. Also featured is a Georges Lenfant Ruby and Diamond Bracelet of flexible construction, set with round-shaped rubies and brilliantcut diamonds, mounted in 18K yellow gold.
