The exceptional results reflect the dedication and expertise of our team, as well as the enthusiastic participation from collectors around the world. The inaugural MODERNISM 1880-1960: Editions & Works on Paper session was very well-received, including Sonia Delaunay’s Poésie de mots, poésie de couleurs (The Poetry of Words, The Poetry of Colors) , which sold for $27,940. Additionally, a recently discovered trove of never-before-seen woodcuts by early 20th-century Provincetown printmaker Juliette Nichols sold through 100%, alongside colorful and rare examples by Pablo Picasso, Giorgio Morandi, Yves Klein, Paul Klee, and Joan Miró, among others.

Our April Post-War and Contemporary Editions & Works on Paper auction was led by blockbuster lots from the Evening Sale, including Andy Warhol’s Double Mickey Mouse from 1981, which sold for $635,000, and Ellen Gallagher’s De Luxe , the complete set of 60 prints from 2004-05, which nearly doubled its low estimate, achieving $203,200. Women artists dominated the evening and daytime sessions of the sale with strong results achieved for works by Louis Bourgeois, Amy Sherald, Joan Mitchell, Mary Heilmann, Ruth Asawa, Anni Albers, Alice Neel, Deborah Roberts, and Polly Apfelbaum.

All said, our two-day, five-session live prints and multiples sales drew more than 1000 visitors to our New York galleries and registered bidders from nearly 50 countries, it would seem that spring on Park Avenue is not just for tulips, but Editions collectors, as well!” Top Ten Lots Lot Description Estimate Price Achieved 138 Andy Warhol, Double Mickey Mouse (F. & S. 269), 1981 $500,000 - 700,000 $635,000 150 Ellen Gallagher, De Luxe, 2004-05 $120,000 - 180,000 $203,200 116 After Jean-Michel Basquiat, Superhero Portfolio, 1982-87/2022 $150,000 - 250,000 $190,500 125 Roy Lichtenstein, Reflections on Girl, from Reflections Series (C. 245) , 1990 $150,000 - 250,000 $177,800 134 Andy Warhol, Grace Kelly (F. & S. 305), 1984 $100,000 - 150,000 $152,400 126 Roy Lichtenstein, Reflections on Conversation, from Reflections Series (C. 240), 1990 $120,000 - 180,000 $152,400 136 Andy Warhol, Marilyn (F. & S. 30), 1967 $80,000 - 120,000 $139,700 130 David Hockney, An Image of Gregory, from Moving Focus (T. 285, M.C.A.T. 276), 1984-85 $60,000 - 80,000 $139,700 141 Andy Warhol, Skulls (F. & S. 157-160), 1976 $80,000 - 120,000 $120,650 127 Roy Lichtenstein, View from the Window, from Landscapes Series (G. 1257, C. 215), 1985 $70,000 - 100,000 $101,600 New Auction Records Lot Description Estimate Price Achieved 107 Louise Bourgeois, Together (MoMA 1119) , 2004 $40,000 - 60,000 $95,250 *previous record price: $ $87,500 set in 2019 115 Rashid Johnson, Untitled Anxious Red , 2021 $20,000 - 30,000 $53,340 *previous record price: $38,100 set in 2023 129 David Hockney, Bora Bora (T.G. 256, M.C.A.T. 213) , 1975 $25,000 - 35,000 $55,880 *previous record price: $52,920 set in 2022 137 Andy Warhol, With Hat, from Ingrid Bergman (F. & S. 315) , 1983 $40,000 - 60,000 $101,600 *previous record price: $96,435 set in 2023 147 Robert Longo, Gretchen, from Men in the Cities , 2002 $15,000 - 25,000 $35,560 *previous record price: $25,000 in 2018 149 Larry Bell, Untitled #1 - #6 , 1974 $8,000 - 12,000 $10,160 *previous record price: $2,125 set in 2011 154 Amy Sherald, Handsome , 2020 $30,000 - 50,000 $53,340 *previous record price: $35,000 set in 2024 *Lots 140 and 246 were sold after the lost closed, whilst the sale was ongoing, and are therefore included in the total sale result.
