Christie’s will present Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, a selection of nearly 150 Chinese ceramics and works of art, in a live auction on 2 May 2025 during Hong Kong Asian Art Week at its Asia Pacific Headquarters at The Henderson. The sale ranges from Imperial porcelains to Buddhist sculptures and classic Chinese huanghuali furniture, all with distinguished provenance. It follows the single-owner sale Ravishing Blue: Imperial Porcelains from an Important Private Collection.
Leading the sale is a rare pair of Yongzheng famille rose ‘prunus and lingzhi’ tea bowls from an important Asian private collection. The bowls display vibrant enamels and detailed craftsmanship, and the pairing of the prunus with the lingzhi seen on them is exceptionally rare.
The sale includes a selection of 13 Ming and Qing huanghuali pieces of furniture from the Collection of Mimi Wong. Other highlights include a rare gilt-bronze figure of Vairocana from the Liao dynasty (907 to 1125), featuring the five Tathagatas on its cylindrical crown adorned with ribbons. The figure belongs to a small group of important Liao bronzes influenced by late Tang iconography.
Also featured is a rare copper-red decorated pear-shaped ‘peony’ vase, yuhuchunping, reflecting a transitional stage between the lighter Yuan dynasty form and the heavier version of the Yongle reign, characterised by a shorter neck and a lower globular body.
