Good morning. It's Tuesday, June the ninth. I'm Sharon, and
this is Open Bid from ALT/FNDATA.
A single-owner wine sale at Christie's has cleared the room.
The Exceptional Private Cellar of a Silicon Valley Pioneer,
sold June the fifth at Christie's Rockefeller Center in New
York, totaled three point two three million dollars. Christie's
reports the sale was one hundred percent sold by lot, and one
hundred and thirty-two percent sold by low estimate — meaning
the total came in a third above the low end of expectations.
A full white-glove result on a single-owner fine-wine
collection.
Christopher Bailey, the former chief creative officer and
chief executive of Burberry, is leading the acquisition of
Burleigh, the English pottery maker. The company is a hundred
and seventy-five years old — one of the oldest Victorian
potteries still operating. Terms were not disclosed.
In resale, Britain's Competition and Markets Authority has
opened a formal review of eBay's purchase of Depop, the
secondhand-fashion app. The regulator says it will decide by
August the sixth whether to clear the deal or refer it for an
in-depth investigation.
Three stories from footwear this morning, and they don't all
point the same direction.
First, StockX. The resale platform is launching a live-shopping
service this summer — selling everything from sneakers to
electronics in real time. Chief executive Greg Schwartz says
it is the platform's next growth lever.
Second, expansion. New Balance's India partner, Brandman
Retail, plans to bring more global brands — including Salomon
and Anta — into the Indian market, and to more than quintuple
its store count by 2028.
But third, a softer read at home. Designer Brands, the parent
of DSW, saw its stock drop on weak guidance. First-quarter
sales rose just one point four percent, to six hundred and
ninety-six million dollars.
A spirits theft: nearly eleven thousand bottles of Noble Oak
bourbon were stolen in Philadelphia last week — the latest in
a run of large spirits heists over the past year.
And in collectible autos, actor Jason Momoa and Hedley Studios
have unveiled a one-of-a-kind electric Mini Bentley Blower — a
scaled recreation of the 1920s race car, with one hundred
custom touches.
One data point for the backdrop. The Bank of France will raise
its 2026 inflation forecast, Governor Emmanuel Moulin said,
citing the effect of the Iran war on prices.
Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels is in New York today. Christie's
Important Watches follows tomorrow, June the tenth, also in
New York. Bonhams Watches is in London on the eleventh.
Christie's Paris Hermes handbag sale and Sotheby's Gem Drop
both run on the twelfth. And on Saturday the thirteenth,
Bonhams sells roughly one hundred cars from the National
Automobile Museum in Reno.
That is Open Bid for Tuesday, June the ninth. Closing Price is
this evening at five PM Eastern, and the Art Market show
publishes later today.
I'm Sharon, from ALT/FNDATA.
