Add auction price data to your developer tools

Query realized auction prices from Claude Code, Cursor, Cline and any tool that launches a local MCP server. Install the package, set your key, and ask in plain language.

The local server needs Python 3.10 or newer. Tools that support remote servers can also use the hosted connector at https://mcp.altfndata.com/mcp with OAuth instead.

Setup

Connect developer tools in four steps

You need an ALT/FNDATA API key to sign in. The connector is hosted, so there is nothing to install.

  1. 1

    Get your ALT/FNDATA API key

    Open the app at API Key & MCP, go to API Key & MCP, and copy your key. The connector runs on this key.

  2. 2

    Install the server

    Install it with pip install altfinance-mcp, or run it with no install using uvx altfinance-mcp.

    pip install altfinance-mcp

    Or, with no install, point the tool at uvx:

    uvx altfinance-mcp
  3. 3

    Add it to your tool's MCP config

    Add the server to your tool's MCP settings with your key in the ALTFINANCE_API_KEY environment variable. Cursor and Cline take the same mcpServers JSON shape.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "altfinance": {
          "command": "uvx",
          "args": ["altfinance-mcp"],
          "env": { "ALTFINANCE_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here" }
        }
      }
    }

    In Claude Code, add it from the terminal instead:

    export ALTFINANCE_API_KEY="your-api-key-here"
    claude mcp add altfinance -- altfinance-mcp
  4. 4

    Restart and confirm

    Restart the tool, then ask an auction-price question to confirm the tools are live.

Try it

Ask in plain language

Once connected, ask developer tools questions like these. It picks the right tool and returns realized prices with sources.

  • What did a Hermès Birkin 30 sell for in 2024?
  • Price-check a Rolex Daytona 116500LN.
  • Market stats for Patek Philippe watches.
  • How have classic Ferrari values moved year by year?
  • Search the whole market for a Burma ruby ring over $50,000.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the hosted connector or the local package?
Either works. Claude Code, Cursor and Cline launch a local server, so install the package. Tools that support remote servers can use the hosted URL https://mcp.altfndata.com/mcp with OAuth instead.
Which editors and tools does this cover?
Any tool that launches a local MCP server over stdio, including Claude Code, Cursor and Cline. They all take the same mcpServers configuration shape shown above.
Do I need a paid plan to use the connector?
Yes. The connector runs on your ALT/FNDATA API key. Get your key in the app at API Key & MCP, choose OAuth when you connect, and sign in with it.
Can the connector change or delete my data?
No. All nine tools are read-only. The connector queries auction data and returns it; it never writes, edits or deletes anything.
What data does it cover?
Realized auction prices across 20 collectible categories, from watches and jewelry to fine art, wine and classic cars, drawn from 100+ auction houses worldwide and normalized to USD.
Are these realized prices or asking prices?
Realized. Every figure is what an item actually sold for at auction, normalized to USD. Unsold lots are tracked separately, and every result links back to its source.
The menu names in my app look different. What do I do?
Assistants rename and move these settings as they roll features out. The connector URL (https://mcp.altfndata.com/mcp) and the OAuth sign-in stay the same; check the assistant's help pages if a step reads differently.
