London, 17 June 2026 - Phillips has announced that Annie Wallington will join the company as Senior Specialist, Head of Modern Art, London in July 2026. The appointment signals the firm's focus on expanding its Modern Art offerings amid strong market demand, and it comes at a significant moment for the category, as collector interest broadens and a new generation of buyers increasingly engages with Modern works. Based in London, Ms. Wallington will play a strategic role in further strengthening Phillips' global network of senior Modern Art specialists and in expanding the company's presence across Europe.
India Phillips, Managing Director, Modern & Contemporary Art, Europe, framed the hire as well timed. "Annie's appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Phillips," she said. "Modern Art is seeing clear momentum, with Contemporary collectors increasingly moving into the 20th century canon. This shift plays directly to Phillips' strengths, with our embedded network of Contemporary collectors across the region." She added that Ms. Wallington "brings deep market expertise and a highly client-focused approach across both Core and Masterpiece-level transactions in the Modern market and will be central to strengthening our platform and deepening our client relationships across Europe."
Two decades in the international art market
Ms. Wallington brings two decades of experience as both a specialist and senior leader in the international art market. She most recently served as Senior Specialist and Director in Christie's Impressionist & Modern and 20th/21st Century Art Department. Over the course of her career she has worked on numerous landmark collections, including The Ernst Beyeler Collection, A Surreal Legacy: The Edward James Foundation, The Leslie Waddington Collection, Birth of the Modern: the Arnold & Joan Saltzman Collection, and Picasso from the Collection of Norman & Grete Granz. She is a trusted adviser to private, family office, and corporate collectors.
Building the Modern Art team in Europe
The appointment follows continued strength for Phillips across the Modern category, including the recent standout success of the sale of The Collection of Ambassador John L. Loeb Jr. Working alongside Phillips' global team of Modern Art specialists, Ms. Wallington will work closely with India Phillips and with Thibault Stockman, International Specialist, Modern & Post War Art, Paris, as part of the company's Modern Art team in Europe. Together they will focus on strengthening client relationships and driving consignments across the region.
Phillips offers dedicated expertise across Modern and Contemporary Art, Design, Photographs, Editions, Watches, and Jewels, with auctions and exhibitions held primarily in New York, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong, supported by representative offices throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia.
